Striking the perfect balance between strength and beauty, the DMG LION is a powerful, 13-inch, all-weather Fresnel that utilizes cutting-edge technology to replicate the look and feel of a classic Fresnel fixture – but with the versatility that LED technology provides.
EASY-TO-SWAP LED ENGINES
The DMG LION features two LED engines* – a MIX® LED Engine and a PUNCH™ LED engine – that are designed to swap in and out of the fixture in a matter of seconds without any tools. This future-proof feature also enables the DMG LION to be easily upgraded as LED technology advances by swapping in newly designed LED engines when they become available – without replacing the entire fixture.
MIX® LED Engine
Utilizing the same patented, six-chip, MIX® Technology found in Rosco’s DMG Lighting soft lights, this LED engine is designed for full spectrum output to produce bright, vibrant colors, and enhanced skin tones at any color temperature.
PUNCH™ LED Engine
This 2700K-6500K bi-color LED engine provides maximum intensity. Designed to produce the same output as a 5K tungsten Fresnel, the PUNCH LED engine also features green and magenta color correction for the beam.
MIXPUNCH
* DMG LION does not ship with an LED engine. Please choose from the available LED engines described above when ordering to achieve the light output your project requires.
13" FRESNEL LENS
The fixture’s large 13-inch (33cm) Fresnel lens creates the classic ‘soft-edged spotlight’ beam expected from a larger Fresnel light. The light output from DMG LION is soft enough to create flattering light on talent, yet hard enough that it can produce crisp and dramatic shadows. The large Fresnel lens also improves the overall efficiency of the fixture and enables DMG LION to produce an extra-wide beam spread that is useful for lighting large spaces or for creating soft light with a defined beam shape.
OFFON
MOTORIZED SPOT TO FLOOD
75° BEAM ANGLE
With a range of 15° - 75°, DMG LION features the widest beam angle of any LED Fresnel.
LOCAL & REMOTE CONTROL
The motorized LED engine is quiet on set, and is controllable via DMX, the myMIX® App, and the fixture’s onboard controls.
DESIGNED TO LAST
Engineered using a rugged combination of aluminum and durable thermo-plastics, DMG LION is a dependable LED Fresnel that’s perfect for rental houses, broadcast studios, sound stages, performance venues, and concert tours. DMG LION features a self-contained housing (no external power supply) that is designed to be stackable and accept standard 13” accessories like scrims, gel frames, and speedring adaptors.
OUTDOOR-RATED
Featuring a self-contained, all-weather housing, DMG LION can be deployed anywhere it’s needed – from rainy or snowy locations to a dusty rig hung above a stage.
REPAIR – DON’T REPLACE
DMG LION has been engineered to be fully repairable. Whether it’s replacing a broken lens or an individual chip in the LED Engine – virtually every component of DMG LION can be replaced, repaired, or updated.
A Fresnel light features a light source that is aimed to project its beam through a Fresnel lens, which is designed to harness the light. The light source is typically mounted on a movable track that enables it to be positioned closer or further away from the Fresnel lens to change the beam from narrow spot lighting to wide flood lighting. The light source of Rosco’s DMG LION is an LED engine and it features a motorized, 15°-75° Spot-To-Flood zoom with local or remote control options.
Are Fresnel lights hard or soft?
The light output of Fresnel lights is truly unique. The overall quality of the light is soft and even. But, unlike actual soft lights, the beam of a Fresnel light has a defined shape and is capable of producing crisp shadows.
What are the advantages of Fresnel lights?
The biggest advantage of a Fresnel light is its versatility. its ability to switch from a tight spotlight to a wide floodlight provides lighting professionals with multiple lighting qualities from one source. A Fresnel light’s soft and even output does not produce harsh shadows or highlights when lighting talent, but it can also produce crisp shadows when textured/shadowy lighting effects are required. Rosco’s DMG LION features a large, 13” Fresnel lens and produces a large beam of versatile light for any lighting setup.
When should you use a Fresnel light?
Fresnel lights are wonderful for lighting talent because their unique output accentuates facial features without overly harsh, unflattering shadows. The MIX® LED engine of Rosco’s DMG LION makes lighting talent even better thanks to its patented six-chip technology that produces enhanced skin tones. Because the size of their beam can be altered and focused to fit specific areas, Fresnel lights are also excellent choices for creating washes to illuminate theatrical stages, sound stages and broadcast studios. They are also useful for blasting light through set windows to replicate incoming daylight.
What is the difference between LED and traditional Fresnel lights?
The two biggest differences between LED and traditional Fresnel lights are power consumption and heat. Traditional Fresnel lights used high-wattage tungsten or arc sources, while most LED Fresnel lights are capable of producing the same amount of light output using a fraction of the power. The PUNCH™ LED engine for DMG LION, for example, can create the same output as a 5K tungsten Fresnel using less than 1,000 watts of power. This is also beneficial because low-wattage LED Fresnels can be plugged into household outlets, which is particularly advantageous when on location. The energy-efficiency of LED Fresnels and enables them to generate a lot less heat, which equates to a more comfortable lighting environment for talent, less sweat to ruin makeup, and lower air conditioning bills.
